Goodreads Description:
"Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel."

There has been so much fanfare about this book, and for the most part it lived up to its reputation. Tahereh Mafi’s writing style is incredible—it took me a few pages to adjust to it because it was so different, but it made for some intense story-telling. You can really feel all of the emotions jumping off the page and surrounding you—I was completely sucked into the novel.
I really liked Adam, but I’m going to confess that I am sympathetic towards Warner (the bad guy). Yes, he was completely freaking psycho, BUT I think it’s clear that he has some psychological/parental issues to work out—and you know what, it seems like he and Juliette actually do have some things in common that would make them compatible. I do like Julitte better with Adam though because he doesn’t go out of his way to traumatize her, hurt innocent babies, and oh yea—he’s not a psycho.
Given all of the gushing about the ending, I was expecting to fall off my seat. I personally didn’t think it was anything that heart-stopping or cliff-hanger-esque, but that’s just me. I would love to say more about the ending, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
Shatter Me is filled with intense, heart-stopping, action and romantic love scenes. All in all, I loved it and want to see what happens next.

There are so many reviews for this one being posted today and every single one is making me desperately awaiting the arrival of my own shiny copy of Shatter Me. :D And I'm afraid that this will take a few days and I don't want to wait anymore! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat review. Thank you for sharing even though it makes me want to read it even more. ;)
