Goodreads Description:
"The year is 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler.  Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world."

Tempest is amazing—it’s one of those books that has something for everyone and you just can’t help but devour it.  It’s hard to even know where to begin with this book because there were so many things I loved about it.

First of all, the time travel…how cool!  Julie Cross had a very unique take on time travel—I’ve just never read anything like it before, and it’s quite complex.  I don’t want to get into how time travel works in Tempest because I don’t want to ruin the book for anyone.  Jackson, the main character, doesn’t know very much about his time traveling abilities and a big part of the plotline involves him trying to figure it out.

Aside from the really awesome powers that Jackson has, the romance adds so much to this book. I mean, oh my god, he loves Holly. The whole thing was sweet and romantic, and as he was recounting all of his favorite moments with Holly, I just couldn’t help saying “awww”. It was fabulously done! Romance is always one of my favorite parts of a novel, and I have to say that Julie Cross is a romance expert.

Since this book wasn’t awesome enough already, let’s throw in spies and government agencies! This book really does have it all.  The CIA allowed for some pretty epic action scenes. I’m still blown away by how complete this book is—it has all of my favorite elements and then some.

Tempest is a drool-worthy novel filled with action, adventure, and romance that will appeal to both men and women. It has a little something for everyone, but every aspect that is incorporated into the novel is flawlessly executed. There is not a single thing I would change and I cannot wait to read more from Julie Cross. Tempest was a truly remarkable debut and Julie Cross clearly has a sparkling future as a Young Adult author.

Tempest will also be available as an audiobook.

  1. What an awesome review. I love how you called Julie Cross sparkling. Of all the YA books that showed up on that WSJ article a few months ago this is the one I've heard the least about. I actually forgot about it, but now I want to read it.
