Love Triangles: Endure

Love Triangles is a feature I created to discuss how I feel about love triangles in the novels I read. I am assuming that those reading the love triangles posts have already read the books. Please be aware that these posts may contain spoilers.

Nick-Zara-Astley
I have felt the exact same way about this love triangle since Astley came into the picture in Captivate. Who cares about Nick? Astley and Zara are so much better together! There are a couple of reasons I feel this way:

1. I do not like Nick. At. All.
He has always annoyed the crap out of me. To be fair, a lot of this is due to the way the character development was written. Nick is always so macho, etc. I can tell from his actions that he is “macho” and a bit chauvinistic—I do not need one sentence per page telling me this. Jeez. But aside from the irritating character development—he is a bit chauvinistic and that bothers me. He never treated Zara as an equal and that is just not ok.

2. Zara turned into a pixie
After Zara turned—specifically to bring Nick back from Valhalla—Nick treated her like she was diseased. He has proved that his “love” for Zara is far from unconditional.

Astley loves Zara whether she is pixie or human. Perhaps more importantly though, both of them being pixies and leaders of Astley’s tribe, leaves them with a special connection that they will not be able to find with anyone else.

3. Astley is so sweet
Astley does the sweetest things for Zara. All of his words and actions make it clear that he is devoted to her and would do anything to make her happy. That kind of unconditional love is rare and precious, and should not be ignored.

  1. I agree! I didn't like Nick from the get-go and I really don't understand why Zara is even considering him or something. I know he's been her friend since ever but just no. And if he really loves Zara, he would accept her no matter who or what she is.

I've been Team Astley since he appeared. So Astley. Astley. Always.

  2. I really liked Nick in the beginning, but then Astley came along. He is definitely the one Zara should pick in the end!

  3. I think I might have liked Nick when his character first was made but after a few pages I didn't like him as much. Then Astley coming into the picture changed that to Team Astley. I think many readers feel this way. I have to agree with you I think most of this has to do with the fact that his character was never fully developed - almost not at all. But this series also have never been a favorite, but its been entertaining enough to keep my interest.
