Love Triangles is a feature I created to discuss how I feel about love triangles in the novels I read. I am assuming that those reading the love triangles posts have already read the books. Please be aware that these posts may contain spoilers.
Aspen-America-Maxon
When Aspen broke America’s heart, he broke my heart. The
intensity of America’s emotions just leapt of the page, and I felt so bad for
her. Aspen was a complete jerk and a
chauvinist. Even though Kiera Cass did a good job of developing their
relationship, there is very little I like about Aspen. The way he treated
America was terrible and he seriously needs to get over himself. America cooks
him a dinner and he flips out just because he can’t afford to cook her the same
dinner? Sorry, no. She can help support you—big freaking deal.
Maxon, on the other hand, is sweet, caring, and a perfect
gentleman. He is concerned about the happiness of everyone in the Selection and
honestly wants to find someone he can love and rule with. While Maxon and
America come from very different
backgrounds, as Maxon begins to understand the plight of the lower castes, he
does what he can to relieve them. Maxon and America have a lot to learn from
each other and I am really looking forward to watching their relationship
develop.
Verdict?

THANK YOU! I've been saying what you said everywhere I can. I HATE Aspen. I hate it when guys feel like they can just decide "I'm not good enough" and not even let the girl have input. It's the girl who should be the one to decide if a guy is good enough or not. Who cares about money, wealth, etc. If two people love each other - that's enough. So I was pissed at Aspen when he just left America, with no regard for what *she* wanted.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, Maxon was super sweet and understanding. He didn't freak out when America had her meltdowns or homesickness, etc. He was so supportive and acted like a true friend.
***SPOILER ALERT***
That's why I was so mad at America when she sort of got back with Aspen towards the end. I was mad that she forgave him so easily and just leapt back into his arms. He's right, he doesn't deserve her! Not after that silly stunt he pulled.
(Yes, I'm very unforgiving!)
I can't agree more Ashley! I hated how Aspen pushed America away and then thought better of it and came to the palace to find her. I think he had his chance and should back off till Maxon decides if he and America want to be together, if hey don't Aspen should confess his feelings then. I don't think it's far to Maxon that Aspen comes back in the middle of HIS competition and tries to steal America away just as their feelings for each other are starting.
